No one has the right to decide what job you can do except you and your doctor. Having a disability does not prevent you from having a job. There are several laws that protect individuals with disabilities. The law most people are familiar with is the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). The purpose of the act was to put an end to the discrimination disabled people were faced with. Discrimination is said to occur when a disabled person is treated less favorably due to their disability. The ADA requires employers with more than 15 employees to make reasonable accommodations that allow a qualified job applicant with a disability to complete the application process or a disabled employee to carry out the duties of the job. It is illegal to require a medical examination prior to a job offer being made.
